"Honestly, if girls could swap between what they have and a working dick then I'd exclusively sleep with them."
As expected, Gabbi did giggle at the tease, finally cracking a smile now.
“Y’know, I love the silly joke idea of marrying my gal pal, but it might keep you from actually finding a boy or girlfriend,” she hummed, wiping her eyes now. “Someone crushing on you might think you’re being serious for me and not confess to you~”
Gabbi started heading in the direction of Chloe’s place, looking forward to the distracting evening.
"If a person can't handle my love for you then I don't want them~." It seemed as if Gabbi had perked up at least. Keeping a hold of her friend's hand, Chloe kept up a lighter conversation while they made their way back to her apartment. Stepping inside and kicking her shoes off without a care, going in to the lounge where she collapsed against the sofa and opened her arms. "Cuddle!"
Gabbi just silently nodded at the suggestion given. She couldn’t believe her mother would think, let alone think, such horrible things! The Montgomery family had been living in Paven since the city’s founding, several decades ago. And with how rainbow friendly and open Paven was from day one, Gabriella was baffled that her mother had seemed to keep her nasty thoughts quiet for so long.
“I’m gonna stay away from home,” the blonde muttered after a while, sniffling and still holding Chloe. “I’m glad I’m an adult now. I’m not forced to stay living with that… that… jerk!”
“Good! She doesn’t deserve having you around. And if we really wanna get under her skin then my proposal is still there” she giggled, hoping she could lighten the mood for her friend even a little. “Come on! I got some cocktail stuff and we can grab junk food on the way~”
“She’s no mother of mine,” Gabbi hissed, though kept her hand in Chloe’s. However, after a few seconds, the witch threw her arms around Chloe and buried her face into her friend’s neck, sobbing.
It hurt to hear her own mother talk so nasty about John and even, possibly, Chloe. Gabbi herself was an ally, so it stung more than she expected.
Chloe wasted no time returning the embrace. A hand placed to the back of her friend's head to keep her as close as possible, she allowed her to fully release what disappointed she no doubt felt from her mother's views. To be so closed minded in a town like theirs ... it really was baffling.
"You've left enough clothes at my place by now so if you wanna stay with me for a while to give it time then you can."
“Of course I’m not okay!” Gabbi choked out, turning to look at the other, tears in her eyes. “I’m just finding out my own mom is- is…! Ugh! Who’s even against the gay community these days?! Fuck!”
Gabbi started pacing angrily in a circle, swearing and ranting in Spanish. In a way, Gabbi’d gad a feeling this was the case, but to actually hear her mother talk like that was a whole other story!
“Boy am I happy I moved out of Paven! I can’t leave here abd not see mom ever again!”
Of course this would be a shock. No one would ever want to see their parents be against something that affected yourself or those close to you. Moving a bit closer, Chloe reached out her hand to take a hold of the other girl's. Offering her a small squeeze as a show of comfort being available should she want it.
"For her generation, it's oddly expected for her to be so closed minded. But she doesn't speak for everyone. I know she's your mother but she's just one person out of so many that love you."
Gabbi’s mother muttereded something to her husband, who patted her back lightly.
“Now, Ari. Be nice. He’s still a good man,” he told her quietly.
“This is why I want Gabriella to stay in Paven. She wouldn’t get… confused,” the woman clicked her tongue.
“I’m only confused by what you’re saying, mom.” The younger witch furrowed her brows now, clearly getting bothered. “Spit it out. Why are you so bothered by Johnny being with a guy?”
“It’s not natural. For many reasons. It’s fine to joke about it as a child, the way Chloe did, but you’re all grown adults now. It’s time to be serious. You girls need to find a proper husband, and I was really hoping John would become part of our family with you. But now you’re still single, Gabriella, and he’s gotten so heartbroken, he’s let himself be taken in by those horrible human… things.”
“Mom! That’s so close-minded! I can’t believe you!” Gabriella snapped, shooting to her feet, glaring at her mother now. “I never thought you’d be the kinda person to say that stuff! Forget earlier- I hope you leave for a stupid job and never return!”
Gabbi then spun on her heel, storming off and disappearing in a wisp of yellow air.
It was easy to see where her mother was going to go with the conversation. What she didn't expect was for Isak to be referred to as a "thing" purely because of him being a human male. Chloe clapped her hands to get any of the chip dust off of them before setting the pack aside, moving to the edge of her seat to try and reach for Gabbi's hand the moment she noticed the tension rising and there was no way she'd remain seated when the redhead ran off. The feline's pace able to easily keep up and following closely behind her, keeping an eye on things until the witch chose to stop and catch her breath.
"You okay ..?" she then asked, keeping a little bit of distance just incase Gabbi had to lash out in some way.
Gabbi snatched the chip from her friend’s fingers, still pouting as her mother frowned a bit.
“Still going on with that stale joke?” Another mutter of Spanish as the woman shook her head. “Our Gabbi is not that way. And I’d hoped you would grow out of it when you got older, dear,” she added to Chloe.
“By the way, who is John’s new girlfriend?” Gabbi’s father asked, and she shook her head.
“Boyfriend,” she corrected him, smiling now. “And his name is Isak. He runs a bar outside the state. They’re really cute together~”
At that moment, the witch noticed how her mother had seemed to go pale. Confused, Gabriella sat up fully again.
“Mom?”
“I didn’t realize he was… one of those…”
Gabriella didn’t like the sound of that. “Those?” She glanced over to Chloe, growing wary of how this was going.
Ah ... these comments. Even if she made her tone light and joking they still seemed to be so personally attacked by it. It only seemed to get worse from Gabbi's mother's comment regarding their friend. Chloe continuing to eat some of her snack while she watched the woman, wanting to really see how far she was willing to take things.
"Mmmhm. He's in love with a man."
“You turned him down? Gabriella!” Her mother let out a slew of Spanish in scolding, and Gabbi just smiled sheepishly.
“What?! Even John knew I didn’t feel the same!” she retorted, “There’s no hard feelings, though! We’re still best friends!”
“It might be for the best. He might not be the Seymore heir soon, right? He won’t have the same standing, and Gabriella needs a husband who has high status.”
Gabbi pouted a bit, huffing as she slouched on the couch next to Chole.
"Whether he is the heir or not, he's still of high status so I don't think it's something to really bring up" Chloe spoke up, taking one of the chips from the pack on her lap and holding it to Gabbi's mouth. "Whatever the case, he's happy and that's what matters to us. I do keep telling Gabbi to marry me but she won't do it~" she teased again, adding a little whine to her tone.
